myHTPC
myHTPC is a highly customizable,menu driven front end that allows you, among other things, to launch external programs, browse pictures and large collections of almost any type of media stored on your computer.
myHTPC is extremely flexible and allows you to easily build nested menu structures that can accomplish many tasks. Its large, clear display makes it perfect for large monitors or TV sets.
Although myHTPC is targeted at Home Theater Personal Computer users, it can serve many purposes. For example, it can be used to build a simple menu for children to access their programs. It can also work very well with kiosk and touch-screen applications.

Freevo
Freevo is an open-source digital video jukebox (PVR, DVR) based on Linux in addition to a number of open-source audio/video tools. MPlayer is used to play audio and video files. MPlayer is an excellent media player that can play most popular file formats. Freevo can be used both for a standalone PVR computer with a TV+remote, as well as on a regular desktop computer using the monitor and keyboard.
Freevo is easy to download and install for new users. Most hardware is supported (graphic boards, sound cards and video capture devices).
The Freevo core is under heavy development. It is mostly written in the Python programming language which is very well suited for high-level control applications like Freevo.

Video Disk Recorder
With the availability of high capacity hard disks and MPEG encoders/decoders the idea of a fully digital video recorder comes to mind.
Meanwhile there are several commercial products on the market that implement this functionality. Some of these systems are mainly targetted on working together with special services provided by the system manufacturer, which offer the consumer a personalized recording strategy - and sometimes are available only at extra costs.
The downside of these systems is often the lack of a really flexible \"timer recording\" facility, and the manufacturers\' tendencies to implement new ways of imposing advertisements on the viewer (since it would become too easy to skip the commercial breaks). They also don\'t support what one would expect to come natural with digital recording: on-disk editing. And finally they won\'t let you get access to the actual recorded digital data (for instance for archiving).

KnoppMyth is my attempt (the mysettopbox.tv site guy, not byopvr) at making the Linux and MythTV installation as trivial as possible
KnoppMyth includes several daemon and packages that I hope you\'ll find usefull! I\'ll be adding information on enabling and configuring, as only the daemon required by MythTV are enabled by default.

GB-PVR
I just wanted to let you know about my PVR software. See http://www.gbpvr.com. Its
pretty good if I dont say so myself. It primarily designed for use with the
Hauppauge PVR250/350 cards with support for the PVR USB2, ProVideo and Adaptec
VideOh! coming soon. To of the most interesting features include full On Screen
Display (OSD) on the TV out of the PVR350, and MVP client. We were the first PVR
application to introduce these features, although SageTV now also supports the OSD
on the PVR350.
